▶ October 3 (Friday): National Foundation Day ◀

This holiday celebrates the legendary founding of Korea’s first kingdom, Gojoseon, by the mythical king Dangun over 4,000 years ago. It’s a day for Koreans to remember their history and cultural roots. Many people enjoy visiting historical sites, joining local events, or simply taking a moment to appreciate Korea’s rich heritage.

▶ October 5–7 (Sunday–Tuesday): Chuseok (추석) ◀

Known as the Korean Thanksgiving, Chuseok is a time for family gatherings. Families honor their ancestors, share traditional foods like songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes), and celebrate the autumn harvest. It’s all about family, gratitude, and enjoying warm moments together.

▶ October 9 (Thursday): Hangeul Day (한글날) ◀

This day commemorates the creation of Hangeul (the Korean alphabet) by King Sejong in the 15th century. It’s a celebration of Korean identity, culture, and the pride of having one of the most scientific writing systems in the world.

▶ Food ◀

Chuseok is all about food!

Many restaurants offer seasonal dishes like songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes), jeon (Korean pancakes), and other festive treats. Street markets may also have special seasonal snacks.

▶ City vs. Countryside ◀

Big cities like Seoul may be quieter than usual because locals travel to their hometowns. This is a perfect time to explore popular tourist spots without large crowds. On the other hand, rural areas will be bustling with families celebrating Chuseok, giving you a chance to see authentic Korean village life.

Big cities like Seoul may feel calmer as many locals leave town, giving you a chance to explore at a slower pace.

October 3–9, 2025 is the perfect week to experience Korean holidays, traditions, and culture. From National Foundation Day to Chuseok and Hangeul Day, this golden holiday week is full of family, history, and festive celebrations.

Whether you enjoy traditional foods, explore historical sites, or join local events, you’ll get a glimpse of Korea’s rich heritage and warm hospitality.
